Applying
Year 7 Entry
Each year, Hammersmith Academy admits 140 new Year 7 students who are ready to start their secondary academic journey.
Admissions Criteria
If Hammersmith Academy is listed as one of your preferences, your application will be processed according to our Year 7 Admissions Criteria, which priorities applications in the following order:
- Looked After or Previously Looked After Children
- Children of Academy staff
- Distance from the Academy
- Siblings of current students
Please refer to our full Admissions Policy for detailed criteria and how tie-breaks are applied.
Apply via Your Local Authority’s eAdmissions
Hammersmith Academy is part of the pan-London admissions scheme. This means all parents must apply using their local authority’s eAdmissions online application system.
Hammersmith Academy does not accept applications directly.
Applications can be made on eAdmissions from the 1st September when a student is in Year 6 of primary school.
Deadline for applications is the 31st October when the student is in Year 6.
If you reside in Hammersmith & Fulham, you can visit the link here for eAdmissions.
Moving On Up – Hammersmith and Fulham
The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham produces a guide for parents with children transferring to secondary school in 2026. You can download the Moving On Up document here.
Fairbanding
Hammersmith Academy is a non-selective, non-denominational state secondary school. We believe students of all abilities have the right to access an education that is academically challenging and has the specialism and expertise to help students achieve successful and fulfilling careers.
To achieve a fair entry process, the Academy will invite applicants to sit a banding test. Students will automatically be invited to sit the test when Hammersmith Academy is put down as one of their secondary school options on their eAdmissions application.
All applicants – including looked after children – are required to sit the fair banding test. This is not a pass/fail test but ensures a comprehensive intake across all abilities.
SEND Students
For students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), the admissions process follows a different route from the general admissions pathway.
Families should contact their home local authority’s Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) team, who will coordinate the application process and consult directly with schools on your behalf.
The local authority will liaise with Hammersmith Academy to assess whether we are able to meet the individual needs of your child and whether a place can be offered.
This process is distinct from the standard admissions round and follows the statutory guidance set out in the SEND Code of Practice.
If you are unsure about the process, please speak with your child’s current SENCO or Case Officer for support.
You are also welcome to contact our SENCO at: senco@yellow-dinosaur-438290.hostingersite.com
We are happy to answer any questions or arrange a visit to the Academy.
National Offer Day
National Offer Day is when parents and carers of Year 6 students find out which secondary school place they have been offered. This typically takes place on the 1st March when the student is in Year 6.
If your child is offered a place at Hammersmith Academy, you will receive full information on the next steps for confirming the offer, induction and transition support. We have a comprehensive Year 6 to Year 7 transition programme to ensure every student feels welcome, supported and ready to thrive.
Waiting List
Year 6 students who have not been made an offer of a place at Hammersmith Academy will automatically go on our waiting list if they have been offered a lower preference school. If a student is offered a higher preference school you will need to contact our admissions team to request a place on the waiting list.
In-Year Entry
We also welcome in-year applications. These are subject to spaces becoming available during the academic year and applicants can expect to go on a waiting list.
If you are interested in an in-year place, please contact our Admissions Department by registering your interest on the link here: Register your interest for In-Year Admissions here.
Please make sure you specify which student year the query is in regards to.
