How We Support Students with SEND
We use a range of strategies to support students with additional needs so they can access a broad and balanced curriculum and participate fully in Academy life.
- Differentiated, quality first teaching across all subjects to meet diverse learning needs.
- Teaching Assistant (TA) support for students who require help with reading, writing, hearing or vision.
- A curriculum designed for inclusivity and flexibility, across Expressive Arts, Performing Arts, English, Maths, STEM and Humanities.
- A rich extra-curricular programme ensuring all students can access clubs, trips, and enrichment opportunities.
- Lift passes for students with mobility needs to access all areas of the school.
- Fully wheelchair-accessible facilities, with lifts and ramps throughout the building.
- Modified activities in PE and Games to enable full participation.
Accessibility and Participation
We are committed to increasing the participation of students with disabilities in every aspect of Academy life. From adapted learning spaces to accessible resources, we aim to remove barriers and promote confidence, independence, and inclusion.
Accessibility Arrangements for Exams and Assessments
Students who qualify for additional support in examinations and assessments may receive one or more of the following arrangements:
- Reader or scribe support
- Laptop access
- Rest breaks
- Extra time
- Modified or enlarged papers
- Separate room arrangements
- Differentiated start times
These are agreed in line with JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) guidance and based on individual assessments.
Working in Partnership with Families
We work closely with families through regular communication, progress reviews, and personalised planning to ensure every student receives the right level of support.
Our Commitment
At Hammersmith Academy, we are proud to provide a learning environment that supports diversity, promotes equality, and celebrates every student’s achievements.
We ensure that all students – whatever their starting point or challenge – have access to the tools, encouragement, and expertise they need to flourish.
Local Authority SEND Offers
We work closely with several local authorities to ensure students receive the full range of support available to them.
