Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding provided by the Government to help schools raise the achievement of disadvantaged students and close attainment gaps between them and their peers.

This funding supports students who are, or have been in the last six years, eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), as well as Children Looked After (CLA) or those who have been in care.

Eligibility for Free School Meals is not a measure of a student’s ability, potential, or ambition. However, national data shows a correlation between FSM eligibility and lower educational outcomes.

At Hammersmith Academy, we are determined to break that pattern.

Our Approach

We use the Pupil Premium funding strategically to ensure that every eligible student receives the right support to fulfil their potential and achieve outcomes in line with, or above, their peers.

Our approach focuses on:

  • High-quality teaching and learning, ensuring all students have access to expert subject specialists.
  • Targeted academic support, including tutoring, mentoring, and literacy interventions.
  • Personal development and enrichment opportunities, to build confidence, resilience, and cultural capital.
  • Pastoral and wellbeing support, including attendance monitoring and counselling, to remove barriers to learning.

We continually review the impact of our strategies and adapt our provision based on evidence and student need.

Our Commitment

At Hammersmith Academy, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed — regardless of background or circumstance.

We are proud that many of our students eligible for the Pupil Premium achieve results that are in line with or exceed those of their non-FSM peers. We also ensure that all students have equal access to the full breadth of Academy life — from enrichment and trips to leadership and cultural experiences — supporting their journey towards real world success.

Accountability and Impact

Each year, we publish:

  • A summary of how Pupil Premium funding has been allocated.
  • The impact of our strategies on student progress and attainment.
  • Plans for how funding will be used in the current academic year.
