A Curriculum Designed for Progress and Purpose
Our Key Stage 4 curriculum provides students with a broad and balanced education while offering the opportunity to specialise in subjects that reflect their interests, strengths and future aspirations.
Students benefit from:
- Expert subject specialists who deliver engaging, rigorous teaching
- Clear sequencing that deepens understanding across the two-year GCSE course
- Progressive challenge, preparing students for examination success
- Targeted intervention and support, ensuring no student falls behind
- High-quality enrichment, strengthening cultural capital and confidence
- Close assessment and feedback, allowing students to understand exactly how to improve
Students study a core set of GCSE subjects—English, Mathematics, Science and Spanish— alongside a selection of option subjects chosen at the end of Year 9. This personalised pathway ensures every learner has ownership over their academic journey and can pursue areas that align with their goals and ambitions.
Developing Independence, Confidence and Academic Resilience
By Key Stage 4, students are increasingly encouraged to think independently, manage their time effectively and take greater responsibility for their learning. Through structured support, dedicated revision/intervention programmes, and focused feedback, students learn how to prepare confidently for assessments, respond to challenges and demonstrate pride in their achievements.
We cultivate a culture of ambition, where students aspire to reach their full potential and are supported every step of the way.
Life Skills & Financial Education in Years 10–11
Alongside academic study, Years 10 and 11 provide essential preparation for life beyond school. Our Financial Literacy programme builds upon the foundation laid in Key Stage 3, introducing students to more advanced real-world financial concepts. Older learners deepen their understanding of budgeting, lifestyle spending, what employers look for, borrowing, lending and keeping money safe.
These lessons encourage students to consider the financial responsibilities they will soon face—whether managing their own income, planning further study or beginning employment. Sessions are interactive, discussion-based and grounded in relatable scenarios, helping students develop independence, critical thinking and responsible decision-making.
Students also continue to take part in RSE, supporting their personal wellbeing, aspirations and self-awareness. These sessions help students reflect on their choices, understand the factors that influence their future pathways and build the resilience required for both academic and personal success.
Together, Financial Literacy and RSE ensure that students leave Year 11 not only academically prepared but confident, capable and ready for the next stage of their lives.
Preparing Students for Post-16 Study
Throughout Years 10 and 11, students benefit from guidance and opportunities that prepare them for the transition into Sixth Form, apprenticeships or vocational pathways. This includes:
- Careers information and guidance
- Insight into A-Level, BTEC and AAQ choices
- Support exploring future career sectors
- Opportunities to meet external partners and employers
- Workshops and presentations linked to personal development
By the end of Year 11, students have a clear sense of their strengths, goals and next steps—ready to take on the challenges and opportunities of post-16 education.
A Culture of Support, Ambition and Achievement
The Years 10–11 experience is defined by high expectations, excellent teaching and a supportive community. Students are empowered to embrace challenge, take pride in their progress and develop the independence they need to become successful learners and confident young adults.
At Hammersmith Academy, we ensure every student leaves Key Stage 4 with the qualifications, skills and mindset needed to shape a successful future.
