Defining Real World Success
For me, real world success isn’t defined by titles or achievements — it’s about feeling fulfilled, confident, and able to make the most of the opportunities around me. Hammersmith Academy helped me understand that success comes in many forms, and that discovering your own path is just as important as reaching a destination. The Academy’s belief in my potential, combined with its encouragement and support, helped me build the confidence to pursue my ambitions while staying true to who I am and ultimately leading to me being Called to the Bar and qualifying to practice as a barrister.
Prepared for Life Beyond School
Hammersmith Academy prepared me for life beyond the classroom in ways that continue to shape me today, but the experience that stands out the most is the Amazon Expedition. Being in a completely unfamiliar environment with people I’d never met pushed me far outside my comfort zone. I had to adapt quickly, work collaboratively and face challenges I never imagined I’d encounter. Completing the expedition gave me a deep sense of confidence — I realised I could thrive in the unknown. That lesson has guided me academically, personally, and professionally ever since.
The school didn’t just teach me content; it taught me how to navigate new environments, manage uncertainty, and trust my own resilience — skills that have proved invaluable in university and beyond.
Ambition and Perseverance
HA taught me that ambition isn’t only about striving for the highest grade or the most prestigious role. It’s about setting goals that matter to you and having the determination to pursue them wholeheartedly. Perseverance means keeping going, even when things get difficult, and learning how to adapt to new situations. The Academy’s focus on personal growth helped me understand that with effort, consistency and resilience, I could achieve far more than I ever believed possible.
Seeing What’s Possible
Before joining Hammersmith Academy, I didn’t always see the opportunities available to me. What made HA so special was how personal it felt; even in a busy school environment, I always felt listened to. The strong relationships I built with teachers helped me feel supported, understood and encouraged to push myself. HA didn’t just push me academically — it helped me grow as a person.
The school made me believe I could aim high, pursue my passions and make a difference in whatever path I chose. It opened my eyes to opportunities that once felt out of reach and helped me develop the confidence to go after them.
Taking Practical Steps Toward My Future
Another standout moment is Miss Harrowes sitting me down to review my personal statement. She gave thoughtful, practical feedback and helped me highlight my experiences in a way that felt authentic and powerful. That guidance helped me secure a place at SOAS, my dream university, known for its multicultural environment and diverse community. HA showed me how focused support and encouragement could turn a plan into something real — and it gave me the confidence to take that next step.
Education Beyond the Classroom
Being part of Hammersmith Academy meant there was always something happening — from career events and guest speakers to trips, theatre visits and enrichment clubs. These opportunities made my school experience richer and more enjoyable, but they also played a huge part in building my confidence. They allowed me to explore new interests, experience different cultures and develop skills outside the classroom that I still rely on today.
Theatre trips, in particular, were a highlight. They gave me a chance to step away from academic pressures and experience something creative, inspiring and new.
Community, Diversity and Belonging
One of the things I value most about HA is the sense of community. No matter who you were or where you came from, there was always a place for you. The school offered so many ways to get involved — from mentoring and charity projects to enrichment activities — and made you feel included in every part of school life.
My Sixth Form tutor, Miss Mesa-Masa, even brought Spanish into our tutor sessions, making learning personal and fun. Growing up in such a supportive and diverse environment taught me how to listen, collaborate with different people and step up when it matters — lessons I carry with me every day in my studies, volunteering and career.
A Foundation for Real World Success
Looking back, I can see how deeply Hammersmith Academy influenced my journey. It gave me confidence, shaped my resilience, and opened my eyes to opportunities I might never have considered. HA helped me discover who I want to be — and gave me the tools to start building that future.
